U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.32 percent to 98.579 at 3 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was down to 1.1690 dollars from 1.1727 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.3502 dollars from 1.3543 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 156.63 Japanese yen, higher than 156.23 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar rose to 0.7954 Swiss francs from 0.7915 Swiss francs, and it advanced to 1.3805 Canadian dollars from 1.3757 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar added to 9.1966 Swedish kronor from 9.1749 Swedish kronor.
