U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Monday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased 0.16 percent to 98.267 at 3 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro advanced to 1.1727 dollars from 1.1724 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound added to 1.3543 dollars from 1.3456 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 156.23 Japanese yen, lower than 156.86 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar declined to 0.7915 Swiss francs from 0.7920 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.3757 Canadian dollars from 1.3733 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 9.1749 Swedish kronor from 9.2157 Swedish kronor.
