U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar increased in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, gained 0.21 percent to 98.241 at 3 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro fell to 1.1747 dollars from 1.1767 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was down to 1.3466 dollars from 1.3507 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 156.49 Japanese yen, higher than 156.03 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar increased to 0.7917 Swiss francs from 0.7896 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.3696 Canadian dollars from 1.3684 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar added to 9.1996 Swedish kronor from 9.1802 Swedish kronor.
