Israel to build new solar-storage plant in clean energy push

JERUSALEM, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Israel's Finance Ministry announced on Sunday that a new solar power facility with battery storage will be built at the Ashalim power station in the country's south.

The plant will be capable of supplying up to 80 megawatts of electricity to the national grid, with installed solar panels totaling 150 megawatts in capacity.

The project also includes a battery system able to store around 400 megawatt-hours of electricity, allowing power generated during daylight hours to be used at night or during periods of peak demand.

It said that the project supports Israel's push to increase clean energy use and cut pollution, as the government targets generating 30 percent of the country's electricity from renewables by 2030.

Once completed, renewable energy projects in the Ashalim area are expected to supply more than 800 megawatts of electricity to Israel's power grid.
