MADRID, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- A man in his 50s was found dead on Sunday as two others remain missing following torrential rains in southern Spain.
The deceased was traveling in a van near the town of Alhaurin el Grande in the province of Malaga when the vehicle was caught in floodwaters. His death was confirmed by the town's mayor.
A second passenger from the van, also in his 50s, is still missing. Local emergency services located the empty vehicle, which had been swept away by the swollen Fahala river and left severely damaged, its roof destroyed.
Civil Guard, firefighters and civil protection agents are looking for a motorcyclist who was swept away while attempting to cross a stream in the municipality of Illora in the province of Granada on Sunday morning.
Further intense rainfall is forecast for southern and southwestern Spain from Sunday evening through Monday.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez posted a message on social platform X, thanking all emergency services "working for citizens' safety" and urging the public to take "maximum precaution" in the face of the bad weather.
