U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, went up 0.05 percent to 98.022 at 3 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was down to 1.1777 dollars from 1.1784 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound dropped to 1.35 dollars from 1.3508 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 156.50 Japanese yen, higher than 156.11 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar increased to 0.7891 Swiss francs from 0.7882 Swiss francs, and it fell to 1.3672 Canadian dollars from 1.3674 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar fell to 9.16 Swedish kronor from 9.1744 Swedish kronor.
