Canadian police officer injured in shooting, suspect contained

OTTAWA, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- A police officer was shot and injured Friday morning in Welland, a city in Canada's Ontario province, after police responded to a shooting incident that resulted in a male suspect being contained.

The Niagara Regional Police Service said that "the officer has been transported to hospital as a precaution to assess injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening."
