Chinese donates agricultural materials to rural community in Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese agricultural experts have donated essential agricultural materials to a rural community in central Ethiopia, enhancing local poverty reduction efforts as part of the expanding China-Ethiopia agricultural cooperation.

The handover ceremony took place on Wednesday in Godino Jitu Village, located in Ethiopia's Oromia region. The small rural village serves as a model poverty reduction demonstration site within the broader framework of China-Ethiopia agricultural collaboration.

Donated by the fourth batch of Chinese agricultural experts in Ethiopia, the over 70 pieces of agricultural equipment include sowing and soil-tilling machines, a tractor, corn and wheat threshers, seed drillers, crop planting machines, milkers, water pumps, chick incubators, artificial insemination machines, and solar-powered insecticidal lamps.

During the handover ceremony, Godino Jitu Deputy Administrator Assefa Gudissa said that the "crucial agricultural technologies and inputs will help modernize local farming practices and significantly enhance agricultural productivity in the area and beyond."

The donation represents the latest manifestation of the "life-changing and transformative contributions" made by Chinese agricultural experts to improve the lives of local communities through the introduction of modern farming techniques and the provision of essential agricultural inputs and technologies, he said.

The donation of agricultural equipment is part of a broader three-year poverty reduction project launched for Godino Jitu Village by the Chinese agricultural experts in May 2025, according to Zhang Shihong, head of the Chinese agricultural expert team.

The project, implemented in collaboration with the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture and the local government, aims to transform the lives of local communities by applying modern agricultural technologies and farming methods.
