Six injured as cylinder explosion hits apartment block in Romania

BUCHAREST, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Six people were injured on Tuesday after an explosion in a ground-floor apartment in Buftea, a town outside Bucharest, authorities said.

Firefighters were dispatched following reports that a gas cylinder had exploded without igniting a fire, but the blast left the building at risk of collapse, according to the Bucharest-Ilfov Emergency Situations Inspectorate.

Search-and-rescue teams were sent in to assess the structure, and authorities ordered the evacuation of the building and residents within a 50-meter radius as a safety measure.

The Health Ministry said it has activated an emergency task force that includes major Bucharest emergency hospitals.

On Oct. 17, three people were killed and at least 13 others injured when a gas explosion ripped through an apartment block in Bucharest.
