Russia sees 22 pct decline in new car sales from January to October

MOSCOW, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 1.2 million new cars across all segments were sold in Russia from January to October, a 22-percent decrease compared with the same period last year, Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Albert Karimov said Tuesday.

The share of domestically produced cars increased by 11 percent, now standing at 55 percent of total sales in the first 10 months of 2025, Karimov said at a roundtable discussion in the Federation Council.

In mid-October, Industry and Trade Minister Anton Alikhanov said that new car sales in Russia for the current year are expected to reach around 1.3-1.4 million units, around 25 percent lower than last year.

In order to boost the auto market, Karimov also announced a substantial increase in funding for preferential leasing and auto loan programs.

More than 164 billion rubles (around 2.08 billion U.S. dollars) will be allocated for demand stimulation measures over the next three years, over 40 percent higher than the amount originally planned in the draft federal budget, according to Karimov.

The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade is also considering postponing until 2026 the collection of recycling fees from Russian automakers that have special investment contracts, Karimov added.
