1st LD: At least 7 killed after tourist bus overturns in western Mexico


MEXICO CITY, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people were killed and many others injured Saturday after a tourist bus overturned in the western Mexican state of Michoacan, local authorities said.

The Michoacan Attorney General's Office said on social media that the bus had departed from Uruapan and was heading to Tlalpujahua municipality. Investigators and forensic teams have been dispatched to the crash site.

Local media reported that at least 20 passengers were injured. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the accident and investigation is underway, according to reports.

Traffic accidents are among the leading causes of death in Mexico. Official data showed that 374,949 roadway accidents were recorded nationwide in 2024, resulting in 4,656 deaths and 85,980 injuries.
