U.S. stocks close lower


NEW YORK, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 498.50 points, or 1.07 percent, to 46,091.74. The S&P 500 sank 55.09 points, or 0.83 percent, to 6,617.32. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 275.23 points, or 1.21 percent, to 22,432.85.

Six of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with energy and health leading the gainers by rising 0.61 percent and 0.54 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, consumer discretionary and technology led the laggards by dropping 2.50 percent and 1.68 percent, respectively.
