Four dead as train hits car near Bucharest

BUCHAREST, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed on Friday when a passenger train collided with a car at a level crossing between the Vidra and Jilava stations in Ilfov County, near Bucharest, Romanian authorities said.

The accident occurred on the Giurgiu-Bucharest railway line, when a "Sageata Albastra" (Blue Arrow) passenger train struck a vehicle at an unguarded but signposted crossing in the village of Cretesti, Vidra commune, police said.

Emergency crews from the Bucharest-Ilfov Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) responded with ambulances, firefighting units, and rescue teams. A fifth person in the car was found conscious and is receiving medical treatment.

Train traffic in the area has been completely suspended, the national railway company CFR said.

Police and railway investigators are working to determine the cause and circumstances of the collision.
