Bahrain, Qatar launch 1st passenger sea route

MANAMA, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Bahrain and Qatar launched the first passenger sea route on Thursday, connecting Khalifa bin Salman Port in Bahrain with Al-Ruwais Port in Qatar.

The new ferry service offers a 70-minute journey, providing a swift travel alternative between the two countries, read a statement from the Bahrain National Communication Center.

Bahrain's Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa was welcomed at Al-Ruwais Port by Qatari Transport Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani and several other Qatari officials during the inaugural voyage, read the statement.

The Bahraini minister described the service as a strategic project to enhance the country's transportation infrastructure, facilitate citizen mobility, support tourism, and foster regional cooperation, read the statement.
