NEW DELHI, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Six youths died by drowning in a river in India's eastern state of Jharkhand on Thursday, confirmed the local police.

The incident occurred in the state's Dhanbad district. While the dead bodies of four youths were recovered, a search operation was underway to find the remaining two.

The youths had visited the river Damodar to take a holy dip on the occasion of the religious festival Kartik Purnima. They were swept away by a strong water current in the river, said the police.
