COLOMBO, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka Customs' Narcotics Control Unit (NCU) on Tuesday arrested a Canadian national at Bandaranaike International Airport, seizing a total of 18.253 kg of hashish, local officials said Tuesday.

The seized hashish was found concealed inside the suspect's checked-in luggage and has been valued at approximately 182.5 million rupees (600,427 U.S. dollars).

The suspect, 21, arrived in Colombo from Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, on Emirates flight EK-648 on Monday evening, according to customs officials.

Preliminary inquiries were carried out by officers of the NCU before the suspect and the confiscated drugs were handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation and legal proceedings.
