British Airways resumes flights to Israel

JERUSALEM, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- British Airways resumed operations in Israel on Monday with a flight from London's Heathrow Airport to Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv.

The British flag carrier had suspended its Tel Aviv route on June 13 following the outbreak of a 12-day war between Israel and Iran. The airline will now operate a daily round-trip service between London and Tel Aviv.

Later on Monday, German low-cost carrier Eurowings, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, also restarted its Israel operations with a flight from Hamburg to Tel Aviv. Additionally, the airline's Dusseldorf-Tel Aviv route is scheduled to resume on Tuesday.

On Sunday, Spain's Iberia Express resumed the routes from Madrid to Tel Aviv, while Scandinavian Airlines marked its return to Israel after nearly a decade, initially with two weekly flights connecting Copenhagen and Tel Aviv.

Also on Sunday, American Airlines said it would resume flights to Israel after suspending them on Oct. 7, 2023, amid the outbreak of Israel's multi-front conflict in the region.

The carrier said it will operate a daily flight between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Tel Aviv starting from March 28, 2026.

Currently, four airlines operate direct flights between New York City and Tel Aviv, including Israel's El Al and Arkia, as well as U.S. carriers United Airlines and Delta Air Lines.
