Honduras, Costa Rica cruise to World Cup qualifying wins

TEGUCIGALPA, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Honduras scored three first-half goals to cruise to a 3-0 home win over Haiti in their World Cup qualifier on Monday.

Rigoberto Rivas and Anthony Lozano struck inside the first half hour before Romell Quioto added a third goal on the stroke of halftime.

The result leaves Honduras two points clear at the top of Group C in the final round of CONCACAF qualifiers.

The top team from each of the three groups will automatically qualify for the 2026 tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The two best-ranked runners-up will advance to the inter-confederation playoffs.

In Monday's only other CONCACAF qualifier, Costa Rica eased to a 4-1 home victory over Nicaragua. Alonso Martinez scored two first-half goals for the hosts before Manfred Ugalde and Francisco Calvo struck in the second half. Junior Arteaga was on target for Nicaragua.
