VIENNA, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Austria's September inflation rate eased to 4 percent from 4.1 percent in August, according to a flash estimate released on Wednesday by Statistics Austria.

"Once again, the strongest price driver was the service sector, with a price increase of 4.7 percent," said Manuela Lenk, director general of statistics at Statistics Austria.

Prices of food, tobacco and alcohol rose at a slower pace in September, up 3.8 percent year on year compared with a 5 percent increase in August, the data showed. Slower price growth was also seen in industrial goods.

In contrast, energy prices rose 7.9 percent in September, compared with 5.9 percent in the previous month. "Electricity remained expensive and fuel no longer had a dampening effect on prices," Lenk explained.
