U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 68.78 points, or 0.15 percent, to 46,316.07. The S&P 500 added 17.51 points, or 0.26 percent, to 6,661.21. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 107.09 points, or 0.48 percent, to close at 22,591.15.

Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended higher, with consumer discretionary and technology leading the gainers by adding 0.55 percent and 0.49 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy and communication services led the laggards by losing 1.91 percent and 0.45 percent, respectively.
