Slovenia sets new tourism record in August

LJUBLJANA, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia recorded its best tourism month ever in August, drawing more than 1.2 million arrivals and over 3.3 million overnight stays, the national Statistical Office said Thursday.

Nearly a quarter of all overnight stays were in the capital Ljubljana and the coastal city of Piran. Foreign visitors accounted for more than 1 million arrivals, up 4 percent from a year earlier, and generated over 2.7 million overnight stays, also a 4 percent increase. Germany was the top source market, followed by Italy, the Netherlands and France.

In the first eight months of this year, foreign tourist arrivals rose 7.7 percent compared with the same period last year, with visitors from China up 5.6 percent to 38,108.

Slovenia, a country of 2.1 million people on the Adriatic Sea, is known for its Alpine landscapes and thermal resorts.
