LJUBLJANA, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia expects a budget deficit of 2.9 percent of gross domestic product in 2026, just under the eurozone's 3 percent limit, the government said Thursday. The deficit is forecast to ease to 2.8 percent in 2027, but remain above the 2.6 percent planned for 2025.
Budget spending is projected at 17.7 billion euros in 2026 and 18.1 billion euros in 2027, with revenues of 15.6 billion euros and 16 billion euros, respectively. Key priorities include science, housing, economic development, resilience and security, according to a government statement.
The Fiscal Council has urged tighter spending amid global economic uncertainly. Earlier this month, the government's macroeconomic office IMAD cut its 2025 GDP growth forecast to 0.8 percent from 2.1 percent, citing weaker exports to main trading partners Germany, Austria and Italy.
Slovenia's economy is heavily export-driven, focusing on pharmaceuticals, cars, car parts and household appliances.
