Atletico Madrid's Metropolitano Stadium to host 2027 Champions League final

MADRID, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Atletico Madrid's Metropolitano Stadium will host the Champions League final for the second time in its history after the Executive Committee of UEFA announced on Thursday that it will be the venue for the 2027 final.

The Executive Committee meeting, which was held in the Albanian capital of Tirana, scheduled the final to be held on June 5, 2027, just over eight years since the ground hosted the final for the first time in its history.

The 2019 Champions League final was between Liverpool and Tottenham, with Liverpool winning the game 2-0 with goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi.

The Metropolitano has capacity for 70,692 supporters and has a metro connection to the center of Madrid, as well as being situated close to the city's Barajas-Adolfo Suarez airport.

The ground had previously been named as one of the venues for the 2030 World Cup finals which will be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
