U.S. dollar ticks up


NEW YORK, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.43 percent to 98.256 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro fell to 1.1642 dollars from 1.1700 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound slipped to 1.3533 dollars from 1.3567 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 147.88 Japanese yen, higher than 147.44 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar rose to 0.8085 Swiss francs from 0.8056 Swiss francs and to 1.3814 Canadian dollars from 1.3771 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar climbed to 9.5888 Swedish kronor from 9.5529 Swedish kronor.
