U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 483.52 points, or 1.1 percent, to 44,458.61. The S&P 500 added 72.31 points, or 1.13 percent, to 6,445.76. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 296.5 points, or 1.39 percent, to 21,681.9.

All of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with communication services and technology leading the gainers by rising 1.79 percent and 1.41 percent, respectively. Consumer staples posted the weakest growth, up by 0.17 percent.
