U.S. stocks close lower


NEW YORK, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 200.52 points, or 0.45 percent, to 43,975.09. The S&P 500 sank 16 points, or 0.25 percent, to 6,373.45. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 64.62 points, or 0.3 percent, to 21,385.4.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with energy and real estate leading the laggards by losing 0.79 percent and 0.65 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, consumer staples and consumer discretionary led the gainers by rising 0.17 percent and 0.14 percent, respectively.
