U.S. stocks close lower

NEW YORK, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 61.90 points, or 0.14 percent, to 44,111.74. The S&P 500 sank 30.75 points, or 0.49 percent, to 6,299.19. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 137.03 points, or 0.65 percent, to 20,916.55.

Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with utilities and technology leading the laggards by losing 1.05 percent and 0.91 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, materials and consumer discretionary led the gainers by rising 0.80 percent and 0.29 percent, respectively.
