U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar fell slightly in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased to 98.782 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro advanced to 1.1574 dollars from 1.1566 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound increased to 1.3295 dollars from 1.3276 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 147.61 Japanese yen, higher than 146.95 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar fell to 0.8074 Swiss francs from 0.8082 Swiss francs, and it added to 1.3784 Canadian dollars from 1.3784 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar rose to 9.6722 Swedish kronor from 9.6704 Swedish kronor.
