U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, July 28 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Monday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 1.02 percent to 98.634 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro declined to 1.1595 dollars from 1.1745 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound dropped to 1.3354 dollars from 1.3435 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 148.56 Japanese yen, higher than 147.56 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar was up to 0.8033 Swiss francs from 0.7948 Swiss francs, and it rose to 1.3734 Canadian dollars from 1.3710 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar advanced to 9.6121 Swedish kronor from 9.5151 Swedish kronor.
