U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, July 22 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased 0.47 percent to 97.392 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro increased to 1.1747 dollars from 1.1693 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound advanced to 1.3527 dollars from 1.3488 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 146.57 Japanese yen, lower than 147.43 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar fell to 0.7928 Swiss francs from 0.7983 Swiss francs, and it fell to 1.3610 Canadian dollars from 1.3681 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar dropped to 9.5151 Swedish kronor from 9.5730 Swedish kronor.
