Death toll due to lightning rises to 33 in India's Bihar state


NEW DELHI, July 18 (Xinhua) -- The death toll due to lightning strikes amid monsoon storms over the past two days rose to 33 in India's eastern state of Bihar, an official in the state's disaster management department said on Friday.

Besides, many others were injured and they were admitted to local hospitals for necessary medical treatment. Most of the victims were farmers and laborers working in open fields.

Many parts in Bihar witnessed heavy rains along with thunderstorms over the past 48 hours. The local meteorological department warned of more heavy rains over the next few days.
