U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, June 24 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased by 0.56 percent to 97.858 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro increased to 1.1623 U.S. dollars from 1.1574 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound climbed to 1.3631 dollars from 1.3521 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 144.69 Japanese yen, lower than 146.15 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar fell to 0.8044 Swiss francs from 0.8124 Swiss francs, and it declined to 1.3724 Canadian dollars from 1.3739 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 9.5233 Swedish Kronor from 9.6102 Swedish Kronor.
