U.S. stocks close higher

NEW YORK, June 23 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 374.96 points, or 0.89 percent, to 42,581.78. The S&P 500 added 57.33 points, or 0.96 percent, to 6,025.17. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 183.57 points, or 0.94 percent, to 19,630.98.

Ten of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with consumer discretionary and real estate leading the gainers by rising 1.75 percent and 1.49 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy bucked the trend by losing 2.51 percent.
