56 migrants intercepted off Guinea-Bissau coast

BISSAU, June 3 (Xinhua) -- The National Guard of Guinea-Bissau intercepted on Tuesday an improvised boat carrying 56 irregular migrants off the coast of Cacheu, in the north of the country, police sources reported.

The passengers aboard the pirogue included 41 men, 14 women, and one child. According to the same sources, they were primarily nationals of Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, and Guinea. The migrants were taken to the police station in Cacheu and are awaiting transfer to Bissau.

On March 2025, the National Guard intercepted a similar boat carrying 76 irregular migrants heading toward Spain off the coast of Caravela Island.
