Bulgaria issues new guidelines for child safety in public places

SOFIA, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Bulgaria has unveiled new guidelines on child safety in public places, with a manual issued by a state agency at a press conference on Wednesday.

The document, which addresses risks to the life and health of children, was developed by the State Agency for Child Protection, and is aimed at children, parents and professionals working with children.

Minister of Labor and Social Policy Borislav Gutsanov said at the event that the dangers to children now are very different from those that existed when he was a child, but the new guidelines address these issues very well.

Gutsanov said he wants the brochure to reach more parents so they can understand the dangers their children face. "I urge parents to be more careful and to respect the laws," he said.

According to data cited in the guidelines, the number of children injured by driving individual electric vehicles such as scooters has increased almost threefold year-on-year. In 2023, the figure was 32, while in 2024 it has risen to 94, and one child has died.
