12 injured in knife attack at Hamburg central station

BERLIN, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Twelve people were injured on Friday in a knife attack at the central train station in the northern German city of Hamburg, according to a spokesperson for the city's fire department.

The attack occurred around 6:05 p.m. local time (1605 GMT) on a platform outside the main station hall and in front of a waiting train, reported German public broadcaster ARD's Tagesschau.

The victims include three individuals in critical condition, three with serious injuries, and six with minor injuries, it said.

Authorities said the attacker, a woman, was subdued at the scene and taken into custody by police officers. Federal police believe the incident was an isolated act.

A further investigation into the case is underway.

Hamburg's central train station is one of the busiest public transport hubs in Germany.
