U.S. stocks close mixed


NEW YORK, May 22 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended mixed on Thursday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.35 points to 41,859.09. The S&P 500 sank 2.60 points to 5,842.01. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 53.09 points, or 0.28 percent, to 18,925.74.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with utilities and health leading the laggards by losing 1.41 percent and 0.76 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, consumer discretionary and communication services led the gainers by adding 0.56 percent and 0.32 percent, respectively.
