NEW DELHI, May 6 (Xinhua) -- India and the United Kingdom (UK) on Tuesday concluded a long-awaited free trade agreement.
"In a historic milestone, India and the UK have successfully concluded an ambitious and mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement, along with a Double Contribution Convention," Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on social media.
These landmark agreements will further deepen an India-UK comprehensive strategic partnership, and catalyze trade, investment, growth, job creation and innovation in both countries, Modi said.
"Today Britain has agreed a landmark trade deal with India. Fantastic news for British business, British workers, and British shoppers, delivering on our Plan for Change," UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a statement posted on social media.
Reports said bilateral trade between India and the United Kingdom rose to 21.34 billion U.S. dollars in 2023-24, up from 20.36 billion dollars in the previous year.
