AU condemns attack on Sudan's strategic port city

ADDIS ABABA, May 5 (Xinhua) -- The African Union (AU) has "strongly" condemned the recent violent attack on Port Sudan, a strategic Sudanese city that has remained one of the few relatively stable zones amid the continued conflict in the country.

In a statement issued late Sunday, the AU expressed "deep concern and dismay" over the recent violent attack on the port city in eastern Sudan. It said the attack represents "a dangerous escalation in the ongoing conflict and a direct threat to the lives of civilians, humanitarian access, and regional stability."
