U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, April 29 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 300.03 points, or 0.75 percent, to 40,527.62. The S&P 500 added 32.08 points, or 0.58 percent, to 5,560.83. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 95.18 points, or 0.55 percent, to 17,461.32.

Ten of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with financials and materials leading the gainers by rising 0.97 percent and 0.92 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy bucked the trend by losing 0.37 percent.
