VIENNA, April 29 (Xinhua) -- The number of overnight stays in Austria remained at a high level during the current tourism winter season, with December 2024 and January 2025 being a highlight, official data showed on Tuesday.

According to preliminary results from Statistics Austria, more than 64 million overnight stays were registered in the alpine nation's hotels, guesthouses, and holiday flats between November 2024 and March 2025. The performance was only 0.9 percent below the previous record set during the 2018-2019 winter season.

Of the total overnight stays, 78.1 percent were made by guests from abroad, especially from Germany.

December 2024 and January 2025 saw notable growth, with overnight stays by both resident and non-resident guests exceeding the data from the previous year. In December alone, overnight stays by non-resident guests increased by 13.3 percent.

Tobias Thomas, director general of Statistics Austria, said tourism in Austria is on a record-breaking course, adding that overnight stays in the country are becoming more evenly distributed throughout the year.
