U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, April 25 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 20.10 points, or 0.05 percent, to 40,113.5. The S&P 500 added 40.44 points, or 0.74 percent, to 5,525.21. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 216.90 points, or 1.26 percent, to 17,382.94.

Six of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with materials and financials leading the laggards by dropping 0.73 percent and 0.42 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, consumer discretionary and technology led the gainers by rising 1.96 percent and 1.62 percent, respectively.
