U.S. stocks close mixed


NEW YORK, April 17 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended mixed on Thursday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 527.16 points, or 1.33 percent, to 39,142.23. The S&P 500 added 7.00 points, or 0.13 percent, to 5,282.7. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 20.71 points, or 0.13 percent, to 16,286.45.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with energy and consumer staples leading the gainers by adding 2.28 percent and 2.18 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, technology and health led the laggards by losing 0.67 percent and 0.64 percent, respectively.
