U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, March 25 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar softened in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, lost 0.07 percent to 104.185 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro fell to 1.0799 U.S. dollars from 1.0806 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound increased to 1.2946 U.S. dollars from 1.2927 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 149.85 Japanese yen, lower than 150.55 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar dropped to 0.8825 Swiss francs from 0.8833 Swiss francs, and it decreased to 1.4298 Canadian dollars from 1.4315 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 10.0320 Swedish kronor from 10.0890 Swedish kronor.
