JERUSALEM, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Israel's flagship carrier El Al announced on Tuesday that it has signed a codeshare agreement with Tarom, Romania's national airline.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Romania's Ambassador to Israel Radu Ioanid at El Al's headquarters at Ben Gurion International Airport outside Tel Aviv, according to a statement from El Al.

The statement emphasizes both airlines' commitment to offering safe and efficient flight services, noting the agreement would contribute to expanding economic and tourism relations between the two countries.

As part of the agreement, El Al's two-letter code defined by the International Air Transport Association, LY, will be added to flights operated by Tarom from Tel Aviv to Bucharest, bringing the total number of weekly flights operated by the two airlines to 18, starting April 1.

The deal marks the 23rd codeshare agreement and collaboration that El Al has formed in recent years with leading international airlines, including Delta Air Lines, Air France, KLM, Azerbaijan Airlines, and Virgin Atlantic.
