Bharti Airtel signs agreement with Elon Musk's SpaceX to bring Starlink internet to India

NEW DELHI, March 11 (Xinhua) -- India's multinational telecommunications company Bharti Airtel on Tuesday announced its agreement with Elon Musk's SpaceX to bring Starlink's high-speed internet services to India.

According to Airtel, the agreement is contingent upon SpaceX obtaining the necessary permissions to operate within the country.

Airtel stated that this marks the first agreement of its kind in India, allowing both companies to explore how Starlink can enhance Airtel's offerings and vice versa.

Under the agreement, SpaceX will leverage Airtel's extensive retail network to distribute Starlink devices across India. The collaboration aims to provide Starlink equipment in Airtel's stores and offer services to business customers, as well as connect underserved communities, schools, and health centers, particularly in rural areas.
