Türkiye issues weather warnings for 14 provinces

ANKARA, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Heavy snowfall continues to affect many regions of Türkiye, prompting the Turkish State Meteorological Service to issue orange-coded warnings on Friday for eight provinces and yellow-coded warnings for six others.

According to the latest forecasts, snowfall is expected Friday in the coastal areas of the central and eastern Black Sea, eastern and southeastern Anatolia, as well as Istanbul and its surrounding regions, the service said in a statement. The snowfall is predicted to continue on Saturday.

The provinces of Yalova, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Duzce, Zonguldak, Kastamonu, Sinop, and Bartin have been placed under an orange warning, while Istanbul and five other provinces have received a yellow warning.

In Türkiye, an orange-coded meteorological warning indicates a dangerous situation, while a yellow-coded warning signals potential danger. Authorities have urged caution against potential disruptions in transportation and icy conditions.

Strong winds, reaching speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour, are expected to impact the Marmara region, the coastal Aegean, the inland areas of the Mediterranean, and the southern parts of central Anatolia, said the statement.

There is also a risk of avalanches in steep and sloped areas in eastern Anatolia and the interior parts of the eastern Black Sea region.

Nationwide, temperatures remain below seasonal norms and are expected to drop an additional two to four degrees Celsius, it said.
