6 killed, 27 injured as bus overturns in Iran

TEHRAN, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- At least six people were killed on Thursday and 27 others injured as a bus overturned on an intercity road in Iran's southeastern Kerman province, the official news agency IRNA reported.

The incident, which was reported at 18:31 local time (1501 GMT), occurred as the bus carrying female high school students was traveling from Mahan city to the provincial capital Kerman, IRNA quoted Mohammad Saberi, head of the provincial emergency medical services department, as saying.

He identified the victims as four students, a "young boy" and a teacher accompanying the students, noting that two of those injured in the incident were in critical condition.

Reza Fallah, managing director of Kerman's Red Crescent Society, said 40 female students were on the bus, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

Iran's Traffic Police Chief Ahmad Karami-Asad said the cause of the incident is under investigation, with results to be announced soon. He also mentioned that the wounded have been transferred to the hospital.
