SARAJEVO, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has received approval to continue exporting milk and dairy products to the European Union (EU) following an evaluation, an official announced on Monday.

Stasa Kosarac, deputy chair of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, said the European Commission's Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) issued a positive assessment after reviewing official controls over dairy production and certification in BiH.

"We have worked diligently to maintain access to the competitive EU market," Kosarac said. "This approval is a significant opportunity and a boost for BiH's agricultural sector."

BiH began exporting dairy products to the EU in 2018. However, a DG SANTE audit conducted in June 2023 identified issues in controls over export-bound products, leading to six recommendations for improvement.

Following the implementation of the recommended action plan, BiH secured approval to continue exports.
