U.S. stocks close higher

NEW YORK, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Wednesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 130.92 points, or 0.30 percent, to 44,156.73. The S&P 500 added 37.13 points, or 0.61 percent, to 6,086.37. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 252.56 points, or 1.28 percent, to 20,009.34.

Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with utilities and real estate leading the laggards by dropping 2.18 percent and 1.76 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, technology and communication services led the gainers by going up 2.49 percent and 1.14 percent, respectively.
